From 7 December, UCL will be implementing a retention policy for all recordings in Zoom. Any recordings that are more than six weeks old ( These 4 templates are preloaded into the Zoom app. To disable Virtual Background, open the virtual background options again and choose the option None.

<p>This feature works best with a green screen and uniform lighting, to allow Zoom to detect the difference between you and your background. You can also upload your own images or videos as a virtual background. There are no size restrictions when adding your own virtual backgrounds, but we recommend cropping the image to match the aspect ratio of your camera before uploading it. The Communication Office has prepared 4 Zoom virtual background templates for use. EdUHK members are welcome to use it.</p>

How long are recorded meetings on my account available? A recording can either be stored locally on your computer or on the cloud. Users should avoid using external speakers, speakerphones, or any other noisemakers.</p>
<p>Is Zoom suddenly slowing down on you? One main issue could be your internet connection. You can run a speed test using something like SpeedTest. If your internet connection is acting up, your only solution is to move to another network.</p>
<p>Just click on the arrow pointing up button next to the camera button. Enter Video Settings and go into the Video tab. Uncheck HD. If all fails, you might want to try restarting your computer or reinstalling Zoom. You can also restart your router or disconnect some devices from your network and see if that helps. It will come; it may just take a while. While most activation emails are sent within seconds, some may take up to 30 minutes.</p>
<p>The biggest one is that group meetings can only last for a maximum of 40 minutes. After that, the system will log out all participants and terminate the session. Some users get confused after a meeting reaches an abrupt end. Free users can record a meeting to their device, after which they can upload the recording to Google Drive or any other similar service and then share it with others.</p>

<p>Sometimes we blame Zoom issues on many things, but forget about the possibility that the internet could be down. Try doing a simple Google search on the same device to see if you have an active internet connection. If the problem is your Wi-Fi, try restarting your router and see if that kicks it back in gear.</p>
<p>Are you still not convinced by Zoom? We are not able to provide long-term storage in Zoom due to the number of recordings involved. As a result, from 7 December onwards, any recordings that are more than six weeks old 42 days will be removed from the UCL Zoom account. If you wish to retain any recordings for longer than six weeks, you will need to move them from your UCL Zoom Account to an alternative storage location as outlined below:. Please note: Any recordings must comply with UCL policy.</p>
<p>If you do not wish to keep a recording for longer than six weeks, you do not need to take any action. Will the session be published on YouTube? Ask yourself these questions while creating a specific plan for where these recordings will be posted and what the implications of those locations will be. It is useful for students to understand where recordings are stored so that they can access them and so that they understand who can view them.</p>
<p>I recommend tailoring Zoom recording storage to how you would like the recording to be used. For most lectures , it makes sense to store recordings on the Cloud for greater use and student accessibility. For seminars , it makes the most sense to store recordings locally on a desktop and to have students request the recordings. Students need to be made aware of if recordings will be disposed of. If recordings will be disposed of, then it is essential to have transparency around when that will happen.</p>
<p>I recommend that faculty members leave Cloud recordings available until the end of the academic year and then proceed to delete them. I also think it is permissible for faculty members to indefinitely store their own class recordings on their desktops for future reference and course planning.</p>
<p>There is currently no guarantee that Zoom recordings will continue after the Summer semester, and the issue of recording capacity of classrooms may be relevant after the summer. After identifying how useful the recordings can be for students who may learn best on a more self-paced review or students who may not be able to attend class because of time zone issues, being sick or needing to help a sick family member, unstable Internet , etc.</p>
<p>Think about if there are ways to utilize recording technology moving forward. There may no longer be students with connectivity issues streaming in, but even after the pandemic students and faculty will still get sick and have various reasons why they cannot make class.</p>
<p>Additionally, students may not want to give up the extra review and other pedagogical benefits Zoom recordings can provide. It may be worthwhile to continue to use tools that have been useful in the pandemic even when they are no longer an absolute necessity.
